Toro Rosso zou met de 2015-Ferrarimotor gaan naar een motor die niet alleen 80 pk meer heeft dan de 2015 Renault, maar ook nog eens veel betrouwbaarder is. Daar moet Renault in 2016 maar overheen zien te gaan.

Precies, ik zie Renault in 2016 niet ineens een significant betere motor dan de 2015 Ferrari motor maken. Op snelheid niet en op betrouwbaarheid ook niet. Dus STR gaat er niet op achteruit denk ik maar ook niet op vooruit waarschijnlijk.
Denk dat ze met 2016 Ferrari motoren ook sneller zouden zijn dan grote broer Red Bull in 2016, en dat kan natuurlijk niet.

Het zou me eerlijk gezegd niet verbazen als ze RBR wél voorbij gaan. Als ze er zoals de geruchten zeggen maar liefst 80 pk op vooruit gaan en de Renaultmotoren worden niet doorontwikkeld, dan zou dat volgens mij tenminste genoeg moeten zijn om ze het vuur aan de schenen te leggen.

Waarom is het, binnen de context van motoren althans, het waard om op vrijdag vroeg op te staan? Serieuze vraag.

Omdat die eerste vrije training het eerste beeld gaat geven van de nieuwe prestatieverhoudingen in het komende seizoen. En daar kijk ik nu al naar uit!

Skysports.com publiceerde vandaag een statement van Renault waarin ze vertellen dat hun deelname middels de overname van Lotus definitief is:

* Renault return to Formula 1 with its own team for 2016 season.

* Renault, 12-time Constructors' Champion with nearly 40 years in the sport, is an iconic brand in Formula 1 and intends to play an active role in the sport's development.

* F1 is a technology showcase and accelerates development of Renault's innovation and range of sports cars.

'Following the September announcement of the signing of a Letter of Intent with Lotus, teams at Renault continued to evaluate the possibility of a return to Formula 1. Particular attention was paid to competing successfully with its own team in a financially sound way starting in 2016.

'"Renault had two options: to come back at 100 percent or leave. After a detailed study, I have decided that Renault will be in Formula 1, starting 2016. The final details supplied by F1's main stakeholders gave us the confidence to accept this new challenge. Our ambition is to win even if it will take some time," said Carlos Ghosn, Chairman and CEO, Renault.

'As a full team, Renault will take maximum benefit from its victories. The payback as an engine supplier proved to be limited. The return on the investment necessitated by the new engine regulations and the return in terms of image were low.

'Work continues on finalizing the terms of the acquisition of the Lotus F1 Team in the shortest timeframe possible. The principal contracts were signed on December 3, 2015. The Lotus F1 Team effectively stands out as the best partner. Renault and Lotus F1 have known each other for 15 years and were world champions together in 2005 and 2006.

'Renault has had uninterrupted involvement in Formula 1 for almost 40 years. In 1977, it revolutionised the championship with the introduction of turbocharging, a technique that soon became the norm in the sport. Renault has since taken part in more than 600 grand prix, claiming 168 race wins, 12 Constructors' titles and 11 Drivers' crowns.

'Renault's decision to continue its involvement in Formula 1 is confirmation that it sees motorsport as an essential part of the brand's identity. Formula 1 is the ultimate symbol of the passion for automobiles. Passion defines Renault as expressed by its brand signature, 'Passion for Life'. In addition to attracting many customers, Formula 1 also fuels employee motivation. As the pinnacle of motor sport, Formula 1 demands technological and operational excellence. The championship serves as a showcase for the technological expertise that Renault dials into its products for the benefit of its customers.

The new partnership, which represents a shift away from F1's conventional supply systems, will see TAG Heuer take up naming rights of the team's power unit, which will be supplied by Renault. The new car will be christened the Red Bull Racing-TAG Heuer RB12.

Deepening the relationship between the team and the legendary timing house, which can call on more than half a century of heritage at the cutting edge of motorsport, TAG Heuer will become the Official Timekeeper, Official Watch Partner and Team Performance Partner of the Red Bull Racing team from 2016 in a multi-year partnership.

op een paar maand tijd zal jhij wel niet alles vanaf 0 kunnen ontwikkelen dus ze zullen ook wel alles van renault krijgen.

Het is gewoon een Renault waar ze mee gaan rijden hoor. Ze noemen het alleen TAG, om een beetje te kunnen verbergen dat ze met de staart tussen de poten, en met het schaamrood op de wangen terug bij Renault zijn uitgekomen.

Ilmor is inderdaad betrokken, maar die werken rechtstreeks samen met Renault. Dus ook Lotus-Renault zal gebruik maken van de hulp van Ilmor.

Wel grappig dat het scenario dat velen al maanden zagen aankomen nu pas waarheid wordt. En ik vind het ook opmerkelijk dat Toro Rosso toch voor Ferrari kiest en niet voor Renault.

Renault zal op beide gebieden al 'n fikse stap voorwaarts moeten maken om aan het niveau van de 2015 Ferrari te komen, laat staan dat ze deze zomaar zullen verslaan. Het kan, maar ik denk het eigenlijk niet. Uiteindelijk zullen ze het nog steeds van 'n beperkt aantal tokens moeten hebben en ik vraag me echt af of dat genoeg is.

Nou Renault mag zich ook best schamen dat ze nu pas de hulp accepteren van illmor die RB een jaar geleden heeft ingeschakeld.
Ze betaalden dus 50 miljoen voor die a status waarbij ze zelf nog engineers moesten  in schakelen en Renault komt dood leuk met een eigen team.
