Ik ben blij dat het Raikkonen is geworden. Tot voor dit seizoen zei ik dat ik nooit één minuut voor die Fin zou supporteren omdat het zo'n ijskonijn is. Maar liever zo'n ijskonijn als zo'n dikke nek van Alonso. Hoewel ik vind dat Raikkonen zijn ijs wel wat begint te smelten.

McLaren have made a secret bid to keep Michael Schumacher in Formula One next season.

They want to sign the legendary racer alongside reigning world champion Fernando Alonso to create an explosive superteam that would rock the world's richest sport.

Sources close to the talks say team boss Ron Dennis and Mercedes chief Norbert Haug were both involved in the approach.

The alliance would have created the best superteam Formula One has seen since Dennis teamed up Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost nearly 20 years ago.

But 37-year-old Schumacher, already the oldest man on the grid and with a £450m personal fortune, is believed to have passed up the opportunity of another multi-million pound payday.

However, McLaren are still believed to be holding a seat open for him to make an 11th-hour U-turn on his decision to retire.

Car giant Mercedes, part-owners of McLaren, were willing to foot a bill running to tens of millions of pounds to see Germany's greatest driver at the wheel of one of their Silver Arrow cars.

Part of the attraction for Schumacher was an extended deal that would have established him as an ambassador for the company for the years following his retirement.
